About the Ford Explorer Extended Range AWD
The Ford Explorer Extended Range AWD (MY26) is the long-range all-wheel-drive version of Ford’s European electric SUV. Built on Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform, it combines strong performance, family-friendly practicality and improved efficiency, making it one of the most capable electric SUVs in Ford’s range.
Power comes from a dual-motor All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system producing 340 hp (250 kW) and 679 Nm of torque. The Explorer AWD delivers brisk performance, accelerating from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 5.3 seconds and reaching a top speed of 112 mph (180 km/h).
The MY26 model uses a 77.0 kWh usable battery (82.0 kWh gross) with NMC battery chemistry. Official WLTP range is up to 344 miles (553 km), while EV Database estimates a practical real-world range of approximately 265 miles (426 km).
Charging performance is strong, supporting 11 kW AC charging and up to 185 kW DC rapid charging. A typical 10-80% charge takes around 28 minutes, while battery preconditioning and Plug & Charge functionality are both included.
The Explorer remains highly practical, offering 532 litres of boot space and up to 1,460 litres with the rear seats folded. Unlike the Standard Range model, the AWD version also supports Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, making it capable of powering external devices.
The Ford Explorer Extended Range AWD (MY26) is aimed at buyers seeking a practical family SUV with strong performance and long-distance capability. Key rivals include the Audi Q4 55 e-tron quattro, Tesla Model Y Long Range AWD, BMW iX2 xDrive30, and Volkswagen ID.4 GTX.
