About the Volkswagen e-Caravelle L1 100 kW 71 kWh

The Volkswagen e‑Caravelle L1 100 kW 71 kWh is the entry-level passenger version of Volkswagen’s latest electric people carrier. Based on the new Transporter platform, it combines zero-emission driving with the practicality expected from a large MPV, making it suitable for airport transfers, hotel shuttles, community transport operators and large families.

Power comes from a rear-mounted 100 kW (136 PS) electric motor producing 435 Nm of torque, driving the rear wheels. While outright performance is not the focus, the abundant torque provides smooth acceleration and effortless low-speed driving, especially when fully loaded. The e‑Caravelle reaches 62 mph in 12.4 seconds and has a top speed of 70 mph.

A 70.9 kWh usable battery (82.0 kWh gross) delivers a practical real-world range of around 170 miles (280 km), with colder weather and motorway driving reducing this figure and urban driving improving it. DC rapid charging peaks at 125 kW, allowing a 10-80% charge in approximately 30 minutes, while overnight charging from a typical 11 kW wallbox takes around 7 hours 45 minutes.

Despite its commercial vehicle roots, the e‑Caravelle has been developed primarily as a passenger vehicle, offering flexible seating for up to eight occupants and generous luggage capacity. Its boxy shape maximises interior space while the large sliding side doors make access easy for passengers in tight parking spaces.

The e‑Caravelle also supports Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, enabling external electrical devices to be powered from the vehicle’s battery, making it useful for events, mobile working and outdoor activities.

Starting from approximately £56,489 in the UK, the e‑Caravelle sits at the premium end of the electric MPV market but offers a compelling combination of passenger space, practicality and modern electric drivetrain technology. It is available to order from January 2026 as part of Volkswagen’s expanding electric commercial and passenger vehicle range.
