About the BMW iX4 40 xDrive

The BMW iX4 40 xDrive (MY27) is the entry-level dual-motor version of BMW’s first fully electric SUV coupé, built on the company’s Neue Klasse platform. Designed as a sportier alternative to the BMW iX3, it blends SUV practicality with a sleek coupé roofline, advanced digital technology and BMW’s latest sixth-generation eDrive electric powertrain.

At launch, the iX4 range comprises the 40 xDrive and 50 xDrive models, with a higher-performance M60 xDrive arriving afterwards. The 40 xDrive uses a dual-motor all-wheel-drive layout, benefiting from BMW’s new 800-volt architecture and next-generation cylindrical battery technology, which BMW states improves both range and charging performance compared with previous BMW EVs.

The iX4 features BMW’s new “Heart of Joy” control system, which integrates drivetrain, braking and chassis functions to improve responsiveness and efficiency. A drag coefficient of just 0.23 helps maximise range, while standard M Sport styling, large alloy wheels and a full-length panoramic glass roof give the vehicle a distinctly sporty appearance.

Inside, the cabin introduces BMW’s latest Panoramic iDrive interface, centred around a large digital display system and minimalist dashboard design. Premium materials, advanced driver assistance systems and a spacious interior make the iX4 suitable for both family use and long-distance touring.

BMW has confirmed that the iX4 will support DC charging rates of up to 400 kW thanks to its 800V architecture, enabling exceptionally rapid charging. However, BMW has not yet published the full technical specifications for the 40 xDrive variant, including exact battery capacity, power output, torque, acceleration figures and WLTP range. The publicly available launch specifications currently focus on the higher-specification 50 xDrive.
